About the Name:
Honoring a legacy of research and real-world impact.

The Rosenberg Center is named in honor of Dr. Barnett Rosenberg, the Michigan State University researcher whose discovery of cisplatin helped transform cancer treatment worldwide.
Rosenberg joined MSU in 1961 as a founding member of the university’s Biophysics Department. His groundbreaking research led to the discovery of cisplatin, a platinum-based compound that became one of the most widely used cancer therapeutics in history, and established a model for university-driven research with global impact.
Licensing revenues generated from cisplatin and related technologies helped create the long-term financial foundation that continues to support research, commercialization, and entrepreneurship efforts across Michigan State University through the work of the MSU Research Foundation.
The Rosenberg Center reflects that legacy by creating space for the next generation of researchers, entrepreneurs, startups, and industry partners working to move ideas from research into real-world application.
