Yonis Salah

Yonis Salah is a senior at Michigan State University (MSU), where he is majoring in Chemical Engineering. His interest in Chemical Engineering started in high school when he saw how a clean(er) source of water could change the lives of so many people. While in Somalia, he learned the power of engineering and began planning his goals accordingly. During his early years, Yonis studied in 3 of the 7 continents before coming to MSU, which taught him perspective and the role sales can play in achieving any goal. This drove him to pursue sales roles during his internship search and that is how he found himself working for a multinational power management company, Eaton Corporation. In the two summers he spent interning and learning how customer leads are generated, Yonis began to scratch the surface of what sales is and how it is managed. This experience allowed him to reach new heights that he hadn’t anticipated, and so he began setting new objectives.

In order to accomplish these newly created and more refined goals, he needed more perspective. In the summer of 2021, he began searching for startups where his skills could be applied. When asked why he would reply “My internship experiences made me realize that in order to be better at sales I needed to understand how the entire machine (a company) works in unison with the gears I have in my hands (the roles I can play)”. This realization however, came with a tough decision that needed to be made by the end of summer 2021. He decided to push his graduation back an entire year in order to get more internships and broaden his own perspective even further.
